Alpine skiing

In Chamonix, skiing is a popular activity enjoyed on 119 kilometers of slopes catering to all skill levels. The ski area of Chamonix Mont-Blanc is divided into three main sectors: Brévent / Flégère: these slopes face south and offer stunning views of the Mont-Blanc range. Grands Montets: located on the north side, above the village of Argentière, this area is known for its varied terrain. Balme: situated at the top of the valley and bordering Switzerland, Balme offers a unique skiing experience. You can easily purchase ski passes and book ski lessons at the reception desk for a seamless skiing adventure in this magnificent setting with Mont Blanc as the backdrop.

Ski Hiking in Vallée Blanche

The Vallée Blanche, located between the Aiguille du Midi at 3,800 meters and Chamonix, is a world-famous 20-kilometer ski descent that offers a breathtaking high-mountain panorama in the heart of the Alps. It provides an incredible 2,800 meters of descent. Well-known throughout the world, while skiing is the most common way to enjoy the Vallée Blanche, it can also be explored on snowshoes over a period of two or three days. Skiing between seracs and crevasses in this high-mountain environment guarantees an unforgettable experience. Expert mountain guides are there to ensure the safety of the descent and provide fascinating anecdotes about the history of the peaks that have made the Chamonix valley renowned worldwide.

Aiguille du Midi Cable Car

Climb aboard France's highest cable car, located opposite the residence, for a unique experience. In just 20 minutes, you'll be transported to an altitude of 3777 m on the terraces of the Aiguille du Midi, offering panoramic views of the french, swiss and italian Alps. The more courageous can climb to the summit terrace at 3842 m, or you can step into the void : a viewing box with glass panels on five sides and a void of over 1,000 metres beneath your feet… Departures are every 15 to 30 minutes, depending on attendance, and reservations are required. On site, remember to protect your eyes and wrap up warm. A catering area and souvenir store are also open.

For over a century, the Chamonix Mont-Blanc Valley has been a prominent figure in the world of ice sports. Driven by exceptionally talented generations, Chamonix has earned its reputation as the epicenter of French ice hockey. With an unparalleled track record and numerous legendary players donning the more than century-old jersey, Chamonix is synonymous with ice hockey excellence. The origins of ice hockey in Chamonix can be traced back to the efforts of Jules and Joseph Couttet, who established the first artisanal ice rink along the banks of the Arve River in 1909. Today, the Chamonix ice hockey team, composed of 21 players, competes against teams from all over France. If you're visiting the region for a few days, we'd like to recommend some hidden gems for you to explore: Lac Blanc, Lac Cornu, Aiguillette des Houches, Lac du Brévent, and more. With varying degrees of gradients and levels of difficulty, it's easy to choose the ideal route for both adults and families. For sports enthusiasts, you can also enjoy the pleasures of mountain exploration through trail running. This allows you to take in the incredible views of the Mont-Blanc massif, the Aiguilles Rouges, and the glaciers, without necessarily covering the 170 km distance tackled by the top runners in the UTMB (Ultra-Trail du Mont-Blanc).

Each year, the Climbing World Cup attracts more than 150 participants to the valley in early July. With the guidance of mountain professionals from the Chamonix-Mont-Blanc Valley, you can learn the ropes, enhance your climbing skills, or take on challenging routes with legendary peaks as your backdrop. Detailed maps of the best climbing routes are available at the tourist office, and our reception staff can also provide information about schools where you can receive instruction.
